The heart beat monitor

This consists of an Infrared LED and a photocell. If you put your finger in between the LED and the photocell the you can observe small variations in the light received on the photo cell due to the change of blood colour when new oxygenated (lighter) blood is pumped into your body.

Of course we need an analogue to digital converter to see this effect on the photo cell signal.
